There’s always so much to do and discover on the beach! This year’s summer collection features atmospheric illustrations of the Moomins’ summer day by the sea in lovely turquoise, lilac, pink, and beige pastels. Waves, sand, and sunbeams form vibrant, whirling patterns with a slight retro touch.
The illustrations are designed by Parvati Pillai, who based them on Tove Jansson and her brother Lars Jansson’s comic “Fuddler’s Courtship” from 1959.
“We chose these particular parts from the story because they focus on the light atmosphere of spending time on the beach and the joy of discovery,” says Pillai from Moomin Arabia’s design team.
For Moomintroll, there are endlessly new and exciting seashells to find—only this time, he gets distracted by a trail of buttons. These treasures belong to the Fuddler, another creature who likes collecting things, and the two immediately become friends. Swimming is a must, and after, the picnic treats
Moominmamma has prepared could not taste any better.
But what is Snorkmaiden doing inside a huge seashell?
“It’s a curious scene where Snorkmaiden retreats inside the big shell to cry because Moomintroll doesn’t notice her. She’s desperate for attention, but the ever-curious Moomin is too immersed in treasure hunting”, comments Pillai the background of the illustration.
